Yesterday Ubuntu revealed a new theme and design of Lucid Lynx. According to them this new design is inspired from the theme ‘Light’ but it looks more inspired from the OS X. This design has the same purple tint like that in a Mac book. The only major difference is the apple logo and the dock bar rest all seems identical to the OS X.
They say that this makeover has been done in order to improve the brand value of Ubuntu. There will be a set new logos, new fonts new features and specs and a whole new recommended websites. The reason behind behind the theme name ‘Light’ is that they are considering Ubuntu to be a ‘Lightware’. This what they had the to say for the new theme ‘Light’ :
“We’re drawn to Light because it denotes both warmth and clarity, and intrigued by the idea that "light" is a good value in software. Good software is "light" in the sense that it uses your resources efficiently, runs quickly, and can easily be reshaped as needed. Ubuntu represents a break with the bloatware of proprietary operating systems and an opportunity to delight to those who use computers for work and play. More and more of our communications are powered by light, and in future, our processing power will depend on our ability to work with light, too. Visually, light is beautiful, light is ethereal, light brings clarity and comfort.”
The New Brand :
Logos - The new logo reflects simplicity but as they do not want to loose their brand value so they still have have the same circle.
They have also made some changes in the community logos(forums) to bring a new feeling among the users.
New Gtk Themes - Hey are you tired of that old brownish background? Here is a new tint of Ubuntu. By only seeing this we get an awesome feeling about the new features.
There has been a lot of changes in the boot splash screen over the years. the previous version of Ubuntu, Karmic Koala had an absolutely new splash screen and the coming one looks even better.
CD Concept – everybody loves requesting original CDs from Ubuntu. It is absolutely awesome feeling to hold disc of every new version. This is just because the always have an excellent cover for their CDs. here is the concept of what the Lucid lynx disc will look like.

The guys at Ubuntu are really happy with the response they got ever the years, and why not? they have really changed the world of Linux for millions around the world. It was only a few years back that to operate on Linux you needed to have a deep knowledge of all the commands used in the terminal. But now the whole perspective has changed. There are many Linux versions out there but Ubuntu has the highest ease of access of them all. It gets even better with the huge support that you get on WWW for Ubuntu. Last weak Ubuntu had released the Alpha 3 version of Lucid Lynx. There are very high expectations with Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx). Many new features are being and will be added in this version. There are still a few months before it launches but it is getting all the hype it needs.
