Google Provides Ultra-High Speed Broadband Networks in US

google_experiment_fiber Think Big with gig, this Google’s new experimental project in which it will provide ultra high speed Broadband to thousands of homes in US. In this experiment they would provide speeds up to 1Gbps by fiber network. They will provide this service to at least 50,00 people and have the potential to provide the service to up to 500,000. In support of the National Broadband Plan Google will provide speeds up to 100 times faster than the current speed on which people work. Thinking what is the use of such High Speed? Here are Google motives behind this experiment  directly from the official Google blog:

  • Next generation apps: We want to see what developers and users can do with ultra high-speeds, whether it’s creating new bandwidth-intensive "killer apps" and services, or other uses we can’t yet imagine.
  • New deployment techniques: We’ll test new ways to build fiber networks, and to help inform and support deployments elsewhere, we’ll share key lessons learned with the world.
  • Openness and choice: We’ll operate an "open access" network, giving users the choice of multiple service providers. And consistent with our past advocacy, we’ll manage our network in an open, non-discriminatory and transparent way.

If you want to know more then you can check out the following video where James Kelly, a Product Manager of Google explains the reasons for introducing this service.
