Google “Goggles” Comes to Android

For the past few months there have been several videos of the demo of the Google Goggles service. Google Goggles is a real time search based on a picture/photograph. It uses images as the basis for searching images online. This is a free application but is only limited to the few Android users. Though it seems similar to the Amazon’s iPhone app which does the similar thing but Google offers a number of mash-ups with the Google Goggles service.

In this service lets say if you are in a supermarket  and you like a product jus click a photograph of its barcode and search it online via Google Goggles. It uses the combined features of Google Search. Google Maps and GPS and gives you the result as the competing deals you will get in the near by market.

You just need to Photograph the thing you want to search for. It is the same service as the normal Google Search but only your text entry is replaced by a photograph. So, now you can even search for thing which you cant describe in words or you do not know about.  It also has a cool feature of adding contact to your phonebook by jus clicking a business card. A live search feature also allows you to search for things by just pointing your camera to it, no need of clicking images. But this live search feature works well in only those places which Google has covered in Google’s Street View.  It does not cover all image searches like of small thing like a single leaf or a non-popular shoe, but still it is a good beginning.
