With recent update of homepage layout from Facebook, under the name of Project Titan (eh, it seems like captain Picard now works for Facebook, duh!), Google has lso fastened it’s belts to become another sensation in the social networking zone.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is taking a swipe with Facebook and Twitter. Currently, Gmail only has an integrated chat system which is more like traditional IRCs. But it is trying to convert the base layout to more of a social nature. Google may announce the change this week. The change would integrate a separate module inside Gmail which would let you know about the status updates of your friends, who too are using Gmail.
The idea is more like Facebook. Like, when you drop a link in your status, or upload a photo in your Facebook account, it is automatically shared on the walls of your friends. Gmail is now trying to replicate the same thing with introducing a Live Stream of your friends which would include the recent YouTube videos, Picasa pictures etc, according to one individual, familiar with the matter.
With zillions of people still using Google’s Gmail as their primary source of personal and business communication, this might be a good move by Google to make its grounds stronger in the social section of the internet citizens.
