Confused? So am I. Before you jump out of your seat and begin cursing Mark Zuckerberg, let me tell you, this is a SCAM. Yes. It isn’t real, and hopefully, can never be, So why are we writing about this? Just to get attention? Well, no.
While browsing around in Facebook, I got an update from one of my friend, stating that she has joined the group, “NO, I WILL NOT PAY £3.99 A MONTH TO USE FACE BOOK FROM JULY 9TH 2010!”. The first reaction from me was wtf? And the second reaction was, “man, another scam!”. Well, I was right. It is another scam.
What made me write about just another Facebook scam?
Well, the 759,623 members of the group. Yes! that’s “seven lac fifty nine thousand six hundred and twenty three” people who joined this before without giving a second thought. Well, this number is at the time of writing this post and I’m sure, it is increasing as I’m typing.
To dig a little deeper, I geared up to the Discussion sections. And as I expected, the whole thing was full of spam. With (don’t know what) kind of links, waiting to be clicked. And I’m sure. the moment anyone clicks them, he/she would be served by a very nicely laid SPAM site.
The group proudly (emphasize, without a fear) states that
Facebook have announced plans to start charging £3.99 a month to all users starting from 9th July 2010 we need 1,000,000 members before then to show Facebook we oppose this and will not pay for their services
INVITE ALL YOUR FRIENDS TO JOIN
With it’s wall, full of spam links and useless comments, some saying “I’ll pay”, some saying “I’ll not pay” etc.
But people, this IS a spam. I don’t know how many of them are floating around. But this was the biggest one, I saw, in terms of users joined. So, if you’re one of the member, please UNJOIN the group and ask your friends to do the same. A little more favor would be, if you report the group to Facebook as a spam (as I’ve already done)
A Small Tip For Facebook Users
Please, DO NOT join every other group on Facebook just because you’ve got and invitation and your friend has joined the same. And don’t click every other link Facebook or anywhere on the internet. Use some common sense before pressing that mouse click of yours. Because, you can be spam and ultimately, hacked just because of that single click.
