Today, Government of India announced a Rs 1,500 (around $ 30) tablet PC designed specifically for students. The device would be made available to students in 2011.

When the ministry floated the concept of a low cost laptop some years ago, officials said it would cost Rs 500 ($ 10). It will now cost about three times the initial projections.

The ministry expects the prices to drop to Rs 1,000 ($ 20) and reach Rs 500 ($ 10) as innovations are introduced.

The device, no bigger than a conventional laptop, is a single unit system with a touch screen and a built in keyboard along with 2GB RAM, Wi-Fi connectivity, USB port and powered by a 2-watt system to suit poor power supply areas.

The ministry also invited private players to produce similar low cost computers.

"When we started the project, the response from the private sector was lukewarm. Now many are willing to join the innovation," Sibal said.

The ministry started its efforts by holding discussions on this concept with a group of experts at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Bombay, a ministry official said.

The low cost tablets will be distributed in institutions by the HRD ministry. The final price will depend on the transportation cost.

"We will give some subsidy on the device. As far as transport is concerned, if the transport cost in less, the government can bear that as well," Sibal added.

Everyone who use Twitter from mobile always fancy a Twitter app that’ll outrun the ones he has already tried. And obviously enough, none of the apps really satisfies people. Then they again look for a better one. The case is more sinister with those with the most popular Java embedded OS. The number of Twitter app on this platform is more than any other platforms, and that makes it confusing to choose the best one among them.

We’ve been using all the available Twitter apps available for J2ME platform, looking for the best one, and for quite sometime, we were really happy with Snaptu – A mobile app with support of various web services. The twitter client present in Snaptu is really good. Its the most feature rich app present out there. But, only features are not the measure of a great app.

The main minus point of Snaptu is, it loads for several seconds on each step. Every single click needs to communicate with the web server. Hence making it to use high data transfer. And it also reduces speed of work radically. So we were looking for yet another alternative and came across this app – J1CK.Tweet. A Twitter app developed by J1CK Mobile Systems S.L.

Like all the other apps, this one also supports almost all the features of Twitter. Friends timeline, mentions, Direct Message, retweet, favorites, follow/unfollow, follower list, following list, hash tags, latest trends and searches with them etc etc..

So what is special?

It has got a really Simple UI that even a kid can understand if he knows how to press the up-down and the side keys.

Inbuilt Twitpic support. You can see the pic even without clicking it. it’ll just show up with the tweet.

Inbuilt camera support. You can just capture a pic from within the app and tweet it immediately.

More importantly, Its FAST. Tweeting uses the phone’s native text editor that makes it much faster to load(instantly) and easier to type.

Support for Touchscreen and QWERTY enabled phones.

To add more, it has support for 11 languages! That’s the most any mobile twitter app has ever provided. Languages includes – French, Italian, German, Finnish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Basque and of course English.

Now, every good thing Has to have a fault, right? This one has got one too. This app doesn’t support Auto-refreshing. Means you have to refresh it when you need. It might seem a bit irritating, but It actually makes things better for limited data users.

This app works on every single device that supports Java. Maybe its not tested in all devices, but should work fine. And it is also available in Blackberry.

So if you want to give it a try, download it from Here.

And for any type of problem encountered, don’t hesitate to contact the team.
